Nurse practitioners can often renew stable, long-term medications, such as those for blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, reflux, contraception, and many regular inhalers or maintenance medications, when you have been taking them consistently and are doing well.

Some prescriptions can't be safely renewed by a quick online request. These include:
- Controlled substances (for example opioids, stimulants, and certain sedatives).
- Medications that require recent bloodwork or monitoring before renewal.
